Conservation Action Plan

A Community Direction Setting workshop in November 2025 launched the C411 Country Conservation Action Plan. Funded by Australian Geographic, the workshop was facilitated by Stuart Cowell from Our Common Place.

Participants used the vision developed by our first community workshop in 2024 to identify focal values for the 128,000 hectare landscape, along with health evaluations, risks and threats. The result is a first draft of where C411 Country is headed and what matters most along the way.

From here the plan moves through five stages, running to September 2026.

A skills-based Working Group turns community input into structured decisions on target health and threat priorities, a broader community workshop tests direction and develops strategies, and a second Working Group phase builds the results chains, actions, and indicators that make the plan workable on the ground.

Each stage is reviewed and refined before the next begins, using the Open Standards for the Practice of Conservation, the same Healthy Country Planning approach behind some of Australia’s most successful First Nations-led land management programs.

The process concludes with two documents: a Strategic Plan and an Operational Plan which will inform a prospectus for blended finance investors from government, philanthropy and emerging markets.

Our Common Place builds on and extends the decade of work begun as the social enterprise Conservation Management. He is active in the Conservation Standards and Healthy Country Planning communities of practice, particularly supporting Indigenous Peoples and Local Communities as they work toward healthier communities and places.
